Assumptions About Writing About Literature:

1.       A story is not objective, but that doesn't mean we can't say objective things about it.

2.       A good story is layered, so more must be said than what is superficially obvious.

3.       A good story will reveal more with each reading.

4.       Understanding good literature can be taught but is not easy to learn.

5.       There is no one correct interpretation of a work.
