Profile draft
I interviewed Jane Johnson last week and discovered that she is a very interesting person.
She has many qualities that make her someone anyone would enjoy getting to know. She is still young
and enjoys life, but wants to do more with her life than she is doing now. That is why she is going
back to college to get her degree.
Jane thought she would like to be a veterinarian because she has always loved animals. When
she was five, her parents gave her a pet dog she called "Nippers" because the dog always like to
come up to Jane and nibble her ears when she was lying down. As she grew older, though, Jane
realized that to become a veterinarian, she would have to attend not only a good undergraduate
school, but she would also have to go to a graduate program to be fully qualified.
When that didn't work out, Jane decided that she would do the next best thing: she would
take care of pets. When Jane married Frank, she already owned three cats, a dog, and a parakeet.
All of these animals, except for the parakeet, were strays that she took in. Frank didn't mind at
first, but when she added another dog and then a hutch with four rabbits, he told her that that
would be enough.
Jane had two children shortly thereafter and continued to care for her animals. But when
Jane turned 30, she thought that she needed to do more. So she looked at college catalogs
for programs that would let her continue to be a wife and mother but would also allow her to
reach her goals.
She enrolled at Metro State in St. Paul and began taking courses in education and
teacher training. She thought that if she could work in a classroom, she could teach children not
only important values about life, and reading and writing, but could also teach respect and care
for all of earth's creatures. And today, that is what she is doing.
She is almost done with her program and hopes to be hired as a full-time elementary school
teacher this coming fall. She still has her pets, but now she wants to share her love with the world.
