Research paragraphs, by definition, are more complex. Here's why:
A typical research paragraph may contain as much as the following information:
· transitional sentence connecting previous idea to current idea (optional)
· main point or topic sentence
· context discussion and elaboration (this is the bulk of the paragraph)
· example or illustration (perhaps including quote)
· clarification or additional commentary (optional)
· transitional sentence moving discussion to next point or bringing closure to current point (optional)
Many
research paragraphs do not contain all of this information, but the very nature
of the research paper requires
that some paragraphs provide much more substance in the discussion than you may
be used to. Watch to see that
your paragraphs provide this substance and that they still remain
self-contained. These paragraphs are the mark of
an intelligent and well-written complicated paper assignment.
