Sherri Cady Business Faculty Profile

Sherri Cady photoWelcome to My Web Page!

I have been teaching at Anoka-Ramsey Community College for over 20 years.  Overall, I have been teaching for over 30 years.  It seems like a long time ago when I started, but it was an interesting time in my career.  Personal computers were just coming into the schools around 1980 or so.  I remember teaching VisiCalc, which was the very first spreadsheet software/business tool for the personal computer.

During the '90s, I decided to take on the additional career of a computer corporate trainer.  That was a busy time.  I was able to train in over 100 companies; every company needed to train their employees in Windows and the Office suite.  I trained a variety of software products (Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, database software, and Windows) to a variety of different user groups.  I still work as a standup computer trainer today; this requires a lot of energy, and I need to be quick on my feet answering computer questions from my business clientele.

Currently, I have a busy workload, and cherish any free moments.  However, when I do get a chance to get away from the computer, I spend time with my four pets--2 cats, 1 dog, and 1 parrot.   I enjoy travel with my husband, swimming, golfing, and fitness/strength training.

My Advice

Acquire as many marketable skills as possible for the job market.  You can acquire a variety of skill sets when taking classes at Anoka-Ramsey.  Whatever career you decide on, you will need computer skills.  Almost every employer will expect at least an intermediate computer skill set.  Excel skills are the highest demand set of Office skills that employers are requesting in my training experience.  Also, written communication, problem solving, teamwork, and adapting to technological changes are also mentioned by employers.
