Group Laboratory Reports

Include the following information in your laboratory report, due at the beginning of the laboratory period next week. A single group report is required for this laboratory. You are greatly encouraged to swap email addresses and/or phone numbers to facilitate the timely completion of the report. Backup copies of all word processing and spreadsheet files is highly recommended. (Emailing a copy of a document to yourself and/or your partners is an effective way of accomplishing this.)

1. Title of the experiment, your names, and the date the laboratory was performed.
2. The procedure you followed to produce the experimental data and results.
· If the procedure is one that you followed from a text or a website, simply provide a citation of the procedure.
· If you developed all or portions of the procedure, then write out the procedure that you used.
3. Table(s) of your experimental data, labeled with the proper units. Chemical formulas and mathematical formulas should use subscripts and superscripts where appropriate. For example, write the chemical formula for water as H2O, not H2O; write the variable x-cubed as x3, not x^3.
4. Answers to all laboratory questions. You must either write out the question and your answer or incorporate the question into your answer. For each calculation performed, give the formula, rearranged to yield the desired variable. Alternatively, you may give one sample calculation for each type of calculation performed.
5. Reports must be typed. Use a typewriter or a word processor.
6. Reports must be double-spaced OR single-spaced with double spaces between paragraphs. All sections should be labeled and separated from the previous section.
7. As much as possible, reports should be free of spelling and grammatical errors. Use a spell-checker or have someone else proofread the report.
8. Reports should be written in third-person narrative style and in past tense. For example,
· write "The mixture was heated to boiling and removed from the hotplate."
· not "We heated the mixture until it boiled and then we removed it from the hotplate."
·  not "Remove the mixture from the hotplate once it begins to boil."
9. A table showing the percent contribution of each member of the group on the entire lab, including the report.
10. Citations of any sources you used to perform, complete, or analyze the results of the lab.
