Course Design Review Project |
This project is intended to
focus on best practices in course design by developing a review
process that incorporates elements of effective teaching and
learning regardless of delivery method. Review of course
design will include evaluation of course overview and introduction,
learner outcomes, assessment and measurement,
resources and materials, learner interaction, instructional
technology, learner support, and ADA and copyright compliance.
A bit of History:
-
MnOnline has recommended a
course review process to ensure quality and integrity in online
offerings. Because ARCC has a multitude of online, blended,
and web-enhanced courses, the differentiation between online
courses and traditional courses is blurred. Quality and
academic integrity should be watchwords for all courses; thus, a
process for reviewing course design should encompass all courses.
-
A cross-campus faculty team
of four was formed to move this initiative forward. The
project leader is Elizabeth Nist, and team leaders are Donna
Falconer, Mary Januschka, and Kim Lynch. In the fall of 2006, three
more peer reviewers will be added to the team and twelve faculty
participants will be recruited to submit courses for
review.
-
This project is funded by
the Faculty Awards for Excellence.
Project Goals:
1. Create a voluntary
plan for course design review that will integrate with assessment of
student learning and the faculty appraisal processes.
2. Develop a model for
course design review, including rubrics and peer review
guideline.
3. Recognize the unique
talents and contributions of faculty, inspire excellence, and
promote a learning environment by publishing best practices as part
of the course design review process.
4. Integrate the
evaluation of course design with processes already in place for the
assessment of student learning and the review of faculty
effectiveness.
