Below is a page
in my syllabus describing conduct rules and other information. It is important to let my students know my expectations for
student conduct and consequences for cheating and plagiarism. I can then refer back to the syllabus if
students have questions on this information.

Important Notes:
1. PLAGIARISM
The concept of plagiarism can be confusing, and
there is a difference between deliberate and accidental plagiarism. However, both will be treated the same in
this course.
Plagiarism defined:
"Plagiarism includes the copying of the language, structure, ideas,
and/or thoughts of another and passing off same as one's own, original work, or
attempts thereof." (from Virginia Tech Honor System Constitution, February
1998).
Avoid plagiarism by proper citation of your sources. See Lab supplement page 131 for

No cheating is allowed. Both your
test/assignment and the person’s test/assignment that you copied from will be
taken away and no points will be given for the test/assignment for either of
you.

Accommodations for students with special needs.

Electronic devices like cell phones, headphones,
I-PODS etc. are discourteous and inappropriate in class. All such
devices must be turned off and put away when in class.

During exams, no electronic devices like
calculators and cell phones are allowed. They must be turned off and put
away.
6. It is
expected that you will be on time for lecture and lab. If you miss receiving a handout or
information discussed before you arrived, it is your responsibility to obtain
this information by other means after class.
7. In
class discussions, it is expected and required that you use correct English
and that you participate both by contributing your comments and questions as
well as courteously listening to others.
