While it is still early in the
semester, we need to establish ground rules that will help us function
effectively as an online class. In an online environment, ground rules
are important because we communicate most frequently with written words.
When we're not together, face-to-face, we don't have the benefit of body
language and voice to accompany our words.
Click on the Discussion link above to find
a forum titled “Ground Rules” for you and 2-4 other people. With the other
people in your group, establish a list of 5-10 rules that you think will
help make this class a good experience for everyone (e.g. show consideration
of other class members’ perspectives, avoid excessive, irrelevant email,
use names when replying to someone's posting). Every group member is expected
to participate in the discussion. For this first group task, I'll assign
a group facilitator who will keep the discussion moving, synthesize the
list of ideas you've generated, and submit the list to me via email by
[time, day, date]. I will then consolidate and post a composite list for
class adoption.
