Transfer Information for non-Minnesota schools
If you intend to transfer to a school outside of Minnesota, there may not be a formal transfer agreement in place. Use the following general guidelines to develop your ARCC course schedule.
1.) Contact the four-year university
Contact either the admissions office or the engineering department directly to find out what courses will transfer to their program. This should be done as soon as possible so you know what courses to take. Do not wait until you have applied to the school to contact them about courses that will or will not transfer. Do not take courses that have similar courses titles as the four-year school assuming that they transfer. E-mail would be a good source of communication so that you will have your correspondence with the four-year school documented. During the first communication, you will want to find out what information the four-year school needs to make transfer decisions.
2.) Obtain and send course information
Once you have determined what information is needed by the four-year school, send it to them. The course information that you may need could include:
ARCC Course Catalog showing course descriptions
Course syllabus
Contact information for an instructor in the department
If the four-year school is interested in contacting ARCC faculty members, be sure to let the faculty members know in advance.
3.) Receive and save transfer decisions
Once the four-year school informs you on what courses will transfer for their program, save that information. Again, the information from them should be documented (e-mail, letter, transfer form, etc.)
4.) Enroll in courses and keep up-to-date on curriculum changes
Enroll in the courses specified by the four-year school, and periodically check with the school (website, course catalog, etc.) to see if there have been any changes in the degree requirements that could affect your course schedule.
Remember, the sooner you go through this process, the sooner you will know what courses to take.
