You can earn UP TO 2
percentage points extra credit. Points will be added
to your final course grade. The full two points will only be awarded
to papers that fulfill all the requirements below, and provide an
insightful analysis/reaction to the reading.
First, read the following chapters: 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 (the
chapters not covered in the required reading assignment.)
You must read all the extra credit chapters for this paper. There
will be no partial credit given. Also note that you must read BOTH the
extra credit and required sections, as your paper will not be accepted if did
not pass the quiz about the required portions.
Next, write a 3 page typed double-spaced reaction
paper. In your paper, briefly summarize AND provide your reaction to
the extra credit chapters that you read. Your paper must function
to convince me that you read the extra credit chapters, so be sure that your
summary refers to events covered in each chapter. How you organize the paper is your choice --
you can combine your summary and reaction, or divide them into separate
sections. As you react, consider what each chapter tells you about the
Hmong experience in Asia, as immigrants, and in Minnesota. How did reading
the extra chapters enhance your understanding of her story? Expand your
understanding of how immigrants adapt to life in the United States?
Citations: Your paper will be evaluated for AI usage so it is very important that you avoid using AI and that you demonstrate you read the chapters and wrote the paper yourself. In the summary section of your paper, include page numbers for each fact or event that you mention. You don't necessarily need to include a page number for each and every sentence, but include a couple of page numbers per paragraph. If your paper is flagged as AI, you'll need to demonstrate it was your own writing so saving your notes and previous drafts would be helpful.
