Letters from the Vietnam War

Due Wednesday, 4/2, 9 a.m. Upload to D2L Assessments>Assignment Dropbox. 10 LA points.

 

Citations: At the end of each paragraph, provide the page numbers where you located your answer.  If you do not provide a citation at the end of each paragraph, I will deduct 5 points.  Please remember the citations are designed to demonstrate you gathered your answers from the class readings, so keep that in mind while writing.

 

Step One: Complete the reading titled "Letters from Vietnam" in D2L Materials>Content>Assigned Readings.  Print in the campus computer lab if possible!

Step Two: Write answers to the following questions, 1-2 paragraphs in length for each one. 

  1. What is unusual about Jeff, the author of the letters? (In other words, what makes him different than an average soldier or sailor in Vietnam?)​ 2 points.

  2. This chapter discusses a number of disadvantages of using letters as a historical source. Describe two.​ 2 points.

  3. Describe Jeff’s job and living accommodations during his tour in Vietnam, giving examples from his letters.​ 2 points.

  4.  Thinking question: Do you think Jeff’s opinion of Vietnam changed during his year there? If yes, how? If not, why not? Provide examples from the reading to support your answer. (4 points)
