Once the material is firmly held, gently but firmly guide the saw through the material. Be sure to keep the plate flat on the material. Also, you can adjust the saw to provide a fast, but rough cut, or a slower, but smoother cut. Make whichever adjustments seem appropriate.
As with all power tools, use eye protection and be sure to unplug the tool when changing blades or making adjustments.
