Once you have your material properly set, hold it steady with your left hand, making sure your left hand is well clear of the path of the blade.
Push the blade back as far as it will go to assure it will not catch on the material as you start it.
Once the blade is clear of the material, start the saw using the switch at the end of the swing arm.
