Internal LinksStudent Government The Political Science department supports a strong student government as well as opportunities for student leadership on campus. The student government is recognized as the official governing body and the voice for all college students. As a college student senator, you can advocate for students, serve on college committees, (e.g., employee search committees, policy development committees, and strategic planning committees) and work to promote statewide change.
As a student senator, you may get involved in the Minnesota State College Student Association (MSCSA), representing Minnesota's public two-year college students. Here, students come together to fight for quality public education that is affordable and accessible. MSCSA can help develop advocacy and leadership skills and educate about political and legislative issues affecting higher education.
Becoming a student senator is easy and can be a valuable learning experience to complement a Political Science class. All you need is a minimum of three credits per semester and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. For more information about membership, contact: Cambridge Campus Student Government Office IS 123c, 763-433-1890 www.anokaramsey.edu/studentactivities/studentsenate.cfm Or: Cindi Gilbert, Student Government Advisor

Political and Civic Clubs Political and civic clubs on campus are an essential part of a rich college experience. There are two explicit political clubs:
Campus Democrats and Progressives The club encourages political discussion, activism, and knowledge to promote progressive policies. The club is affiliated with the Minnesota Democratic Party (DFL), the Minnesota Green Party, and Young Democratic Socialists (YDS). Activities include joint tables with progressive community groups, club trips to political events, nationally and internationally, movies, hosting candidates for public office, and working with student government.
College Republican Club The club organizes debates and events such as hosting conservative and Republican Party speakers on campus, sets up tables, arranges internships, and works on political campaigns.
Campus Democrats and Progressives and College Republicans share a club board in Lower Humanities on the Coon Rapids campus to promote their views and events.
The Political Science department will make a reasonable amount of time available in its classes to help student senators and political club officers to inform about their activities.
There are also a number of civic and social clubs such as Christian Fellowship, Gay Straight Alliance, GLBT Unity, Multicultural Student Club, Muslim Student Association, or Phi Theta Kappa.
The college website (anokaramsey.edu/studentactivities) includes a 'Clubs and Organizations Guide' to help you understand how a club is organized or how you can start a new one.
