Blue Grama (Bouteloua gracilis)

 

 

Family: Grass (Poaceae)

Height: 4 - 18" (10 - 45.7 cm)

Flower Size: 1 - 1 1/2" (2.5 - 3.8 cm) long

Flowering Season: July - August

Ecological Preferences: Dry sandy, gravelly soil. Sun loving; does not tolerate well the shading of adjacent plants

Select Characteristics: The inflorescence is a distinct comma-shaped, one sided spike that looks a bit like a comb or a human eyebrow.

Historical Significance: Good forage for grazers. Extremely tolerant to drought.
