Other Common Names: Western Ironweed, Prairie Ironweed

Family: Sunflower (Asteraceae)

Height: 3 - 6' (90 -180 cm) 

Flower Size: 20 - 30 florets in up to 6" inflorescence (flower cluster)

Flowering Season: July - September

Ecological Preferences: Wet soil, found here only in the catch-pond east of the Campus Center building.

Select Characteristics: The stem is very tough, hence the name.
