Ecological Preferences: Wet
soil. It is found here only in the catch-pond east of
the Campus Center building.
Select Characteristics:
Broken stems or leaves exude a milky juice, but to a
lesser degree than that of Common Milkweed (A.
syriaca).
Historical Significance:
Parts of many species of Asclepias were
used by numerous Native American tribes for food and
medicine. Parts of Swamp Milkweed were used for
treating ailments, including intestinal worm
parasites.
