Wild Bergamot (Monarda fistulosa)

Other Common Names: Horsemint, Bee Balm

Family: Mint (Lamiaceae)

Height: 2 - 4' (60 -120 cm)

Flower Size: 1" (2.5 cm) long, in round clusters       1 1/2" (3.8 cm) across

Flowering Season: June - September

Ecological Preferences: From dry to rich, moist soils

Select Characteristics: Square stem, typical of members of the mint family. Highly aromatic stem, leaves and mature flower head.

Historical Significance: Leaves used for tea (Earl Grey). Oil used for skin, respiratory and digestive disorders. Used in hair pomade. Dried foliage used to scent closets and drawers.
