New England Aster (Aster novae-angliae)

New England Aster

 

 

Family: Sunflower (Asteraceae)

Height: 3 - 7' (90 - 120 cm)

Flower Size: Flower head is 1 - 2" (2.5 - 5 cm) wide

Flowering Season: August - October

Ecological Preferences: Wet soil. It is found here only in the catch-pond east of the Campus Center building.

Select Characteristics: It is the largest of the 200+ species of asters in North America. The flowerstalk is bristly-hairy and sticky.
