Culver's Root (Veronicastrum virginicum)

Other Common Names: Black Root, High Veronica, Tall Speedwell

Family: Snapdragon (Scrophulariaceae)

Height: 2 - 7' (60 - 210 cm)

Flower Size: 1/4" (6 mm) long in 3 - 4"                    (7.6 - 10.2 cm) spikes

Flowering Season: July - September

Ecological Preferences: Rich, moist soil.

Select Characteristics: Leaves, slender, with sharp teeth, are in whorls of three to seven around the stem.

Historical Significance: Was used as a cathartic, stimulating vomiting and functioning as a laxative.
