Ecological Preferences:
Dry to mesic (medium) moisture soils.
Select Characteristics:
Fine, silvery hairs cover the plant. The roots may
be five to eight feet long.
Historical Significance:
A tea was made from the leaves. Plant parts were
used as a moxa to treat neuralgia and rheumatism.
Some used it as an antidote for poisons. It is a
high protein forage for grazing animals.
