Round-Headed Bushclover (Lespedeza capitata)

Other Common Names: Roundhead Lespedeza, Dusty Clover

Family: Pea (Fabaceae)

Height: 2 - 4' (60 - 120 cm)

Flower Size: Head 1 1/2" (3.8 cm) wide

Flowering Season: July - September

Ecological Preferences: Dry to mesic (medium) moisture soils.

Select Characteristics: Fine, silvery hairs cover the plant. The roots may be five to eight feet long.

Historical Significance: A tea was made from the leaves. Plant parts were used as a moxa to treat neuralgia and rheumatism. Some used it as an antidote for poisons. It is a high protein forage for grazing animals.
