Tall Cinquefoil (Potentilla arguta)

Other Common Names: Five-finger, Glandular Cinquefoil, White Cinquefoil

Family: Rose (Rosaceae)

Height: 2 - 3' (60 - 90 cm)

Flower Size: 3/4" (2 cm) wide

Flowering Season: June - August

Ecological Preferences: Open areas on sandy or rocky soils

Select Characteristics: The stems and bottoms of leaves are covered with clammy, brownish hairs. The white flowers distinguish this species from the many other cinquefoils, that primarily possess yellow flowers. The tiny smooth seeds have the shape of a fiddle. 

Historical Significance: The powdered roots were used to help control a bleeding wound.
