Family: Sunflower (Asteraceae)

Height: 2 - 7' (60 -210 cm)

Flower Size: 1/4" (6 mm) long in club-shaped inflorescence (flower cluster)

Flowering Season: August - October

Ecological Preferences: Open woods and prairies

Select Characteristics: It has a smooth reddish stem.

Historical Significance: Contrary to popular myth, the many goldenrod (Solidago) species do not typically stimulate an allergic response in people. More often ragweed (Ambrosia) is the culprit.
