Select Characteristics:
It is the only flat-topped Solidago with a
hairy (rough) stem. The long, possibly five feet,
taproot allows for S. rigida to compete well
with other plants during dry periods.
Historical Significance:
A lotion was made from the flowers to treat bee
stings. A tea made from the leaves was used to treat
sore throats.
