Family: Sunflower (Asteraceae)

Height: 1 - 3' (30 - 90 cm)

Flower Size: 1 - 2" (2.5 - 5 cm) wide

Flowering Season: June - July

Ecological Preferences: Prairies and open thickets

Select Characteristics: The leaves, with their three narrow lobes, have the appearance of a crow's foot. They are sessile, attaching directly to the stiff stem without a petiole (little stalk). The mature seeds have the appearance of a tick.

Historical Significance: Some Native American tribes made a poultice from this plant to treat rheumatism.
