Day by
Day Tour Itinerary
July 13: Depart Newark airport for Lima, Peru. Airport transfer to Hoteles
Mundo, 2 nights
accommodation.
July 14: Continental
breakfast. In the morning we will tour the
Colonial Heart of Lima around the Plaza Mayor, with a visit to the Museum of
the Spanish Inquisition and the catacombs.
In the afternoon we will get a guided tour of the National Museum of
Archaeology and Anthropology. The
evening will offer a “Welcome to Peru” dinner for the group.
July 15: Buffet breakfast. Transfer to airport for flight to Cuzco in
the high Andes. Transfer to Chinchero, where the Sunday market is an important occasion
for the mountain people to gather to sell their wares and handicrafts. Two nights accommodation in the Hotel Antiguo Monasterio de la Recoleta Urubamba; box lunch and dinner is included.
July 16: Buffet breakfast. Full day tour of Ollantaytambo in the Urubamba valley. We have lunch in town, and a detailed tour of
the SunTemple, the adjacent ruins, and the Inca road
system and irrigation system which is still in use today. Dinner at the hotel is included.
July 17: Continental
breakfast. Transfer to Ollanta station for the train to Km. 104, where we will
begin an exciting and scenic hike in the Andes from Chachabamba
ruins to the “Lost City” of the Incas, Machu Picchu. This will be a “once in a lifetime
experience” for participants. This is a
moderate hike, for those in good physical condition. Box lunch will be included. Those tour members who choose not to take the
hike will continue by train to Aguas Calientes, where the group will reunite and spend overnight
at the Hostal Presidente. Dinner is on your own tonight.
July 18: Continental
breakfast. The entire group will take a
bus up to return to the spectacular ruins of Machu Picchu. Full morning/early
afternoon tour of the site.
Return to Aguas Calientes
for lunch ( on your own ). Return to Ollantaytambo
on the train for overnight at the hotel Antigua Monasterio
de la Recoleta.
Dinner is included.
July 19: Continental
breakfast. Morning
visit to the Pisac market and ruins. Lunch is included. Return in the afternoon to Cuzco, with stops
en route to the Inca sites of Tambo Machay, Kenko, and Saqsayhuaman. Overnight 2 nights in San Agustin Plaza. Dinner is included tonight at Tunupa restaurant.
July 20: Continental
breakfast. Morning
tour of Cuzco, which was the ‘center of the universe’ of the empire of the
Incas. The tour will include the Korikancha temple, the Spanish cathedral, Hatunrumiyoq, and other important sites. Afternoon tour of the Museo Inka. Lunch and dinner will be on your own. You will discover that there are many
interesting restaurants to choose from in Cuzco.
July 21: Continental
breakfast. Transfer to airport to return
to Lima. Overnight will be at the Hoteles Mundo. Lunch is on your own. Afternoon on your own
for shopping, or a visit to the many other excellent museums in
Lima. For those who wish to shop for
authentic arts and crafts from Peru, we will stop at the Petit Thouars market, with its excellent selection of native work
gathered from all over
the country. Farewell
dinner for the group will be at the Zeno Manue
restaurant. Late evening flight back to
the
U. S. A.

Optional Amazon Extension (total of 3 additional
nights):
July 21: Continental
breakfast. Fly to Pto. Maldonado where we will be
assisted by the staff of the Libertador Tambopata Lodge.
Commence 4D/3N lodge stay (full board).
July 22-23:
Lodge activities–explore the Amazon rain forest with expert guides.
July 24: Return to Lima. Afternoon transfer to Miraflores with its many artisan shops. Lunch on your own. Farewell dinner at Zeno Manue
restaurant. Transfer to Lima
International Airport for the return flight to the U. S. A.
