Reasons for Seeking
Feedback:
- To get some distance from our own
writing; to be able to see our writing from the perspective of a reader
-- “to
become increasingly sensitive to the needs of your readers”
Giving Feedback:
- Read the piece through carefully, noting
strengths and weaknesses.
- Phrase your comments as suggestions and
questions, not as criticism.
- Give positive feedback and praise where
appropriate.
- Respond generally first and then
specifically.
- Respond completely to any prompts
provided by the teacher.
Receiving Feedback:
- Read peer comments with an open mind.
- Consider all comments seriously.
- Accept those comments that help you
improve your piece.
- Reject those comments that seem to be
leading you in another direction.
- Ask for clarification of a confusing peer
comment or suggestion.
