Revision Day in Computer Lab

 

Of Most Importance to Your Grade:

1.) Specific personal experiences that show people, events, or things that helped and/or hindered you on your way to college. These examples should include vivid details.

2.) Explanations about HOW and WHY these specific experiences helped and/or hindered you. (These explanations can occur during and/or after your examples -- in the same paragraph.)

3.) Focused and unified body paragraphs -- one main idea per paragraph.

4.) Clear topic sentences for each body paragraph.

5.) Body paragraphs arranged in a clear and logical way from beginning to end.

6.) A clear thesis statement that summarizes the central idea for the entire essay.

7.) Correct usage and spelling of words. Know the following differences (and there are many, many more):

 

Of Intermediate Importance to Your Grade:

1.) Sentences / Grammar: For this essay, strive for the clearest and most correct sentences that you can. Of course, if there are many problems that affect readability, your grade will be affected. We will work more with sentences for essays 2, 3, and 4.

2.) Punctuation / Mechanics: For this essay, strive for as few errors as possible in these areas. Of course, if there are many problems that affect readability, your grade will be affected. We will work more with punctuation, spelling, and mechanics for essays 2, 3, and 4.

3.) Paper Format: Format your paper to look like those in LBB on pages 41-43 and 526-530. I will demonstrate more about formatting in class today.

 

Of Lesser Importance to Your Grade:

1.) An introduction paragraph. Yes, you should have one, but we will not focus on it this time. For more information about introductions, click here.

2.) Clear and smooth transitions between paragraphs (from paragraph to paragraph). If you have them, great, but we will focus more on them next time. For more information about transitions, click here.
