Davina Ruth Begaye Two Bears

Prewriting

Write out responses to these questions:

1.) Two Bears is writing about when she was a first-year student at Dartmouth. Think about your first year of college, whether it was here or elsewhere, whether it is this year, last year, or in the past. What does she write about being a first-year student that you particularly identify with, or can at least relate to?

2.) What makes an "Ivy League" school? What might make these universities better than any others?

3.) Two Bears says she was determined to let her classmates know "who I was and where I was coming from." Why do you think her "tirade" in class happened when it did?

4.) Two Bears says, "Not everything a Dartmouth student says is profound." What might she mean? Why is realizing this important to her progression as a student?

5.) How do you feel about participating in class and answering a teacher's question -- or volunteering your own thoughts, feelings, ideas, opinions, etc.? Why is this easy for some people and harder for others?

6.) Describe your "ideal" classroom situation. What is the professor doing? What are you, the student, doing? What, if any, interaction is taking place between the professor and you?
