Garbage (above): This is just a giant open
air dump we drove by in Freetown, Sierra Leone. You
can't see it in the picture but there were people,
including kids, sorting through the heap to find
things they could use or sell, etc.
Kroo Bay (above): The bridge in
Kroo Bay is built on piles of mud and
garbage.
Kroo Bay 2 (above): This is a stream running
through the Kroo Bay slum in
Freetown, Sierra Leone. This slum is right on the
Atlantic Ocean and it was probably the worst of the
three slums we went to. The water in the stream was
used for bathing, laundry, and swimming and was
boiled for cooking and drinking. Notice the pig in
the background.
Kroo Bay 3: Another picture of the stream in
Kroo bay. The woman closest to the
camera has containers to collect water for drinking
and/or cooking.
Kroo Bay 4 and 5 (above and below): more
pictures of the stream
Slum on ocean: This is of a different slum
in Freetown (I think it's Suzanne's Bay but I'm not
positive). There's a wall of trash along the edge of
the water.
Rice Field (above): This was taken near
Ukhrul, Manipur, India. It shows how they go with
the curvature of the land and how they use tied
ridges.
Rice Paddy (above): This shows from above
the terracing that is often used in rice paddies.
This is also taken near Ukhrul.
Tied Ridges (above): This one just shows the
tied ridges that are used...
