Education
Educational PhilosophyAs an instructor I work to help students develop the ability to ask thoughtful questions and the skills to investigate the answers to those questions. It is important that students learn to think critically about the world around them and to be thoughtful consumers of information. I use the discipline of psychology as the context for these activities. Psychology is especially well suited for these pursuits as we are constantly encountering psychology related information in our everyday lives. I encourage students to apply course material to their own life experiences and to connect with the material in a real and meaningful way.
Biographical Sketch-I lived in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota for most of my life. After I graduated with my undergraduate degree in psychology, I decided to attend graduate school at Syracuse University. I worked as Teaching Assistant for a variety of courses while completing my Master of Science degree. I was also involved in extensive professional development programs through the TA Program at SU, including the Future Professorate Project. In addition to teaching at SU, I also taught at Cazenovia College. From 2001 to 2005 I taught at Raritan Valley Community College in Somerville, NJ. I moved back home to MN in May 2005 and stayed at home full-time with my son for 3 years. Now that he is in school I am happy to back to teaching full time.
