Directions for using the PsycArticles database:

The Coon Rapids Library now has available a 30-day free trial to APA's "PsycArticles" database. "PsycArticles is a definitive source of full-text, peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles in psychology. The database contains more than 134,000 articles from 66 journals published by the APA, its imprint the Educational Publishing Foundation (EPF), and from allied organizations including the Canadian Psychological Association and the Hogrefe Publishing Group. It includes all journal articles, book reviews, letters to the editor, and errata from each journal. Coverage spans 1894 to present; nearly all APA journals go back to Vol. 1, Issue 1. PsycARTICLES is indexed with controlled vocabulary from APA's Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms."

6) Type your search term(s) in the Search box. Start off with a broad search, then you may narrow if you retrieve too many irrelevant results.

7) On the same screen, you may also, if you choose, limit your search by published date, for example, Jan. 2004-Dec. 2008, or by a particular journal name, such as Behavioral Neuroscience.

8) Click the "Search" box.

9) From your results list, click the title of the article to view the abstract, which is a summary of the article. Doing this step enables you to quickly see whether the article is relevant for your topic or not.

10) If you want a copy of article, click the "PDF full text" or "HTML full text" link. Then, print the article.

11) After trying the database, if you are having problems coming up with appropriate search terms, or not locating articles you can use, or have other research questions, please feel free to contact one of the librarians at 763-433-1150.

12) Please note the trial to PsycArticles ends November 19, which means it will no longer be available this semester.
