The purpose of this project is to
create a comprehensive first aid kit so the student will be prepared to
apply skills learned in class to real life situations.
1. Before putting together your first aid kit, consider the
following:
- Where will you use your first aid kit? Your kit should be designed
so that it will be the most useful for you. For example, an outdoor
enthusiast may want to make a kit for a backpacking trip or a student
commuting to campus may want winter survival gear.
- What type of container will be appropriate for your situation and
potential emergencies?
- What are potential emergency situations you may encounter? What
items will be important to include for these emergencies? You can base this
information on information discussed in class, information found in your
textbook, and other outside sources. You may find the following links
on the class website (http://www.ar.cc.mn.us/zins/HPER%201103/1103homepage.htm)
helpful. Just click on "First Aid Kit" to get to this assignment page.
2. Project Requirements
- Create a first aid kit based on the information above and made
specifically for this class. Your kit will not be accepted if
you submit a pre-packaged kit or simply dump the items from a pre-packaged
kit into a different container.
- Attach a typed, double-spaced paper that includes:
a) your reasoning for
selecting your kit (include all items listed in paragraph #1 above)
b) a scenario in which you would potentially use 3 items
in your kit. You should explain general procedures for using these items as well as
precautions and/or things you shouldn't do when treating the injury.
c) a list of all items included in your first aid kit.
- Although this is not an English class, it is a
college-level class. Therefore, you are expected to turn in
college-level writing. Points will be deducted for grammar,
punctuation, spelling, punctuation, etc.
Writing tutors are available in the Academic Support Center (D-208) if you would
like help with any aspect of your paper.
3. Plagiarism Information
- The concept of plagiarism can be confusing, and there is a difference between
deliberate and accidental plagiarism. However, both will be treated the same in
this course. Plagiarism defined: "Plagiarism includes the copying of the language,
structure, ideas, and/or thoughts of another and passing off some as one's own,
original work, or attempts thereof." (from Virginia Tech Honor System
Constitution, February 1998).
- If plagiarized work is suspected and proven, the
student will receive a "0" for the assignment and is subject to sanctions outlined
in the Student Code of Conduct.
- The following web site offers an excellent definition
of both deliberate and accidental plagiarism: <http://www.millikin.edu/wcenter/plagiarism1.html> |
