HPER 1165: FITNESS WALKING

WALKING MAP ASSIGNMENT

The purpose of this assignment is to provide motivation and accountability for your personal walking goals through group support.  Your group will choose an ideal vacation destination and develop a map, based on actual distances, that illustrates your walking course.  Then, your group’s progress will be charted throughout the semester.

Each map must include the following information:

1.   Beginning and ending destinations

·        with landmarks between

2.   A legend showing the length of miles

·        lengths do not have to be per mile; they can illustrate 5, 10, 15, etc. miles

3.   The total number of miles your group plans to walk this semester (beginning October 3 and ending November 2).  If you are logging steps or minutes in your personal walking program, you can convert these to miles for this project.

4.   The total number of miles your group plans to walk each week

5.   Indicate the reward you will give yourselves when your goal is achieved.

·        weekly rewards can also be developed and included if desired

Each Tuesday:
We will take time for your group to tabulate the total number of miles walked during the prior week.  During this time, you will record and plot the actual miles walked on your map.  Therefore, to facilitate this process (and keep your group members from getting upset with you) make sure you know how many miles you walked the previous week!

·        Exchanging phone numbers and/or e-mail addresses is strongly recommended.  If you are unable to attend class, it is your responsibility to call a group member with your weekly mileage.

DUE DATES:

                           September 26                    AND               November 2
