The
Latehomecomer Extra Credit
Assignment:
You can earn UP TO 2 points extra credit. Points will be added
to your final course grade. The full two points will only be awarded
to papers that fulfill all the requirements below, and provide an
insightful analysis/reaction to the reading.
First, read the following chapters: 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 (the
chapters not covered in the required reading assignment for this week.)
Next, write a 3 page typed double-spaced reaction
paper. In your paper, briefly summarize AND provide your reaction
only to
the extra credit chapters that you read. Your paper must function
to convince me that you read the extra credit chapters, so be sure that your
summary refers to events covered in each chapter. How you organize the paper is your choice --
you can combine your summary and reaction, or divide them into separate
sections. As you react, consider what each chapter tells you about the
Hmong experience in Asia, as immigrants, and in Minnesota. Be in touch
with Prof. Janke if you would like some more questions to guide your reading and
reaction.
The paper should
be in your own words, but if you choose to quote briefly from the text, provide
a page number in parenthesis as your citation.
Latehomecomer extra credit paper: Due Tuesday 4/22 (the same time the weekly quiz closes.) No late papers will be accepted, and your paper will not be accepted if you fail the reading quiz about this book. (In other words, you have to read BOTH the required sections and the sections for extra credit if you will be doing the extra credit.) Submit it to the Assignment Dropbox on D2L.
Citations: At the end of each paragraph, tell me where you found your information. This might mean listing multiple page numbers for each paragraph, which is fine. You might write something like this: [Latehomecomer, 32, 44, 67].
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY STATEMENT:
If you copy any portion of your paper from a fellow student or a website, you
will receive zero credit for the the extra credit paper
AND you will
receive a zero for the weekly quiz. Simply put: read the book and write
the paper yourself. Attempting to copy a summary of the book will result
in earning failing grades. Do not use Chat GPT/AI or you will receive a
zero on the quiz.
