teamed up to encourage land
owners to plant Energy Crops-
The
SUSTAINABLE
way to produce Biodiesel.
Energy Crop Demonstration Plots
Wayne Johnson's North Central
Iowa 140 Acre demonstration plot
has good soil (above). His
site has a double-crop of
Roundup® Ready soybean and Camelina.
At the time of the Camelina
harvest, on July 16th, 2012, his
land has only received 20%
of the normal precipitation. His
land is not irrigated.
The left side of the above photo
is just Roundup® Ready soybeans
and the right side is double
cropped with Roundup® Ready
Soybeans and Camelina.
The soybeans were planted on the
same day on both sides of the
photo.
Located
in Central
Minnesota, on
the Cambridge
campus of
Anoka-Ramsey
Community
College, is a 10
acre
demonstration
plot of the
energy crop,
Pennycress
(above).
The plot is on
the northern
edge of the
Anoka Sandplain.
It has very
sandy, nutrient
poor soils that
holds little
moisture.
No fertilizer or
extra water was
added to the
site in 2011 or
2012.
The above
photo shows
growth of
pennycress from
random seed
dispersal from
the previous
years growth.
No seeds were
planted in the
Fall of 2011.
