Introduction

The Information Literacy Tutorial will provide an introduction to research skills. The Tutorial covers the basics, including how to select a topic and develop research questions, as well as how to select, search for, find, and evaluate information sources. It is intended to help improve how you research, so you can resolve information problems anywhere. This is important not only when researching a paper for school, but being information literate prepares you to make educated choices in your career, as a consumer and as a citizen. The Tutorial is not intended to replace meetings with your instructors or librarians.

There are six chapters in the Tutorial, each with its own set of objectives and exercises, along with a Self-Test that is divided into two parts: Pre-test and Post-test. These tests are solely to enhance your skills and will not be viewed by anyone else. You may access the Chapters & Self-Tests from the numbered links above.

Several Chapters include worksheets or supplemental documents that can be used as you proceed through the Tutorial. You might choose to print some of these documents for future reference.
