Use flash cards to study, it really helps! Take good notes and study them. The exams are straight out of your notes. Don't be afraid to ask questions. It's a fun class, teacher good and really like the topic. make sure to study the notes and what's on the website. Study for tests. The outlines online are your best friend. If you can go through the whole outline without looking at your notes, you will be prepared for the exams. Don't freak out about getting things wrong. It's hard material. Take lots of notes and base your studying on these rather than just the textbook. Showing up on time helps. Professor Wehling does swear. As long as you take good notes and study them, you'll do fine. It can be challenging. use the first exam to learn how he tests. Study everything, separate topics, and take notes on almost literally everything. Read through every explanation that is on D2L. Study the information right after you learn it. The book is not necessary if you take good notes and pay attention in class. Study the topics that are hardest for you early on and don't wait until the night before the test. Put effort in note taking and don't miss a day. Every lecture day counts. Fall 2015 Pay attention, take more notes than what's written on the board, look at the outlines and the D2L explanation documents, and have fun--it's interesting material. Show up to class every time, and don't be afraid to talk to Ed, he is not as scary as he seems. Pay attention to the online study guides and go though them before every test. If you can't answer a question it asks it will absolutely be on the test. Go through your notes outside of class so you know that you know the material. Take time to actually study. Do as much as you feel is necessary. Your grade is 100% up to you. Make note cards after every class period so you aren't cramming for exams. Explain the information to help study. Tests are hard. Definitely study--not just the night before. Do it every day after you learn something new. They should listen during the lectures and not be late, because class gets interrupted if someone is late. Also, printing the study gudie and taking notes on it might not be a bad idea. Don't miss a single lecture, and be on time. Take better notes! Don't just copy what you see on the board. It makes no sense. Start studying for a test at least a few class periods beforehand so you can ask questions in class that other students may have. Spend a lot of time studying, and show up to class. Also, don't be late. Just listen, take notes, and ask questions. Study!!! Getting 75% isn't difficult. Make sure to take your time when studying for a test, and write down as much as possible in the note taking. Read the textbook if you are stuck or confused. Watch crash course astronomy for extra help if you need it. Be sure to study. Use the topic outlines right away because they are really helpful and show you basically everything that is going to be on the exam. Try printing out the topic outlines with enough room to write on them. Fill them out during lecture. My test grade increased 20% when I did that! Come to class, don't be late, take good notes, use the topic outlines, and pay attention! Use the explanations and other documents on D2L. They are great study materials for tests. If you really want to know and understand the material, put in effort outside of class. Use all the resources available to study. Try to learn every little detail. The questions on tests are a lot harder than you think. Read the topic outlines and discussions. Show up on time. Listen and take good notes. Come to class every day. Study for tests. Take good notes and keep them organized. Try to refrain from just grouping everything from one chapter together. Break them into sections. Study hard. Morning class? Bring coffee. Be prepared to take a lot of notes, but this class is very entertaining. Make sure to know and study the material. You can't just wing the tests. He is not afraid to kick you out! Show up for class! Show up to class. Take detailed notes. Don't show up late--it's annoying. Make sure you take all the notes given in class, very helpful. And use the topic outlines on D2L to study. Just come to class and pay attention. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Show up to class. Take good notes. Review the explanation documents before the tests. Enjoy the videos. Use the explanation documents. Not everything gets explained fully in class. Your notes won't be enough to prepare for tests. Ask questions after or during class if you get lost or confused about something during class. Start making flash cards in the beginning of the semester because the topics can be really hard to learn and flash cards help you explain the topics and have a better understanding by going through them. Also, go through the flash cards regularly! Read over the study guides and explanations about the topic before coming to class to learn more about it. Even though the book is optional, there is very interesting information in it. Make note cards from your notes. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Don't put off studying until the night before the test. Use the explanation documents! If you have questions, ask them. Chances are someone else was wondering the same thing. Study your notes that you copied from the board and understand them. That's it. You can get by by simply revisiting them twice before the test. Come to class and pay attention! Pay attention and write down everything. if you can, study with a partner or a group. Don't skip class. Take more notes than the professor writes. Actually study. When I even studied for an hour using the D2L documents I saw a huge improvement. It's not what I thought it would be about but it's worth waiting until the end. Come to class and develop a note-taking system that works for you to study for the tests. Come to every class because if you don't you are basically screwed. Write down more than what is written on the board while taking notes. Write the notes in a way that makes sense to you! Come to every class! You need the notes in your words. Attend class. Pay attention. Take notes. Ask questions. Review your notes. Try to study as much as possible and ask questions a lot about what will be on the exam so you know what to study for. Study your notes every day for the upcoming exam. Take detailed notes. Don't miss any days. Take notes. Read your book. All the class is are notes and tests. Show up to class, take notes, and study. No need to buy the book. The topic outlines were very helpful. Drop. If you do not know anything (or very little) about Astronomy, your notes and others who do know about Astronomy already should be your best friends. Otherwise, you will do poorly. Print out the topic outlines because if you follow along with the outline while he is lecturing, it is way easier to study for the exam. Take good notes. Study right away, not just before tests. Use the D2L study guides, and actually study. Show up to class. Take good notes. Sit in the front. Study. Take time every day to look over your notes. This is such an amazing class if you understand and Ed is such an amazing, funny professor. Enjoy. Show up for the exams. Use study guide or D2L. Study and stay on top of things. Pay attention in class. Use the study guides on D2L. From Fall 2014
Make it to every class!!
Sit in the front, take good notes,
pay attention.
Ask questions in class, even if you
are pretty sure you understand. He will rephrase things and make it more
clear. Take advantage of the explanation documents! They are great study tools and clarify anything that may be confusing. Show up on time and pay attention. It would make a difference in your tests. It was said by a former student that this instructor [Ed Wehling] was a wizard and used to work for NASA. No doubt. Pay attention, this guy knows his material. Has been one of the best instructors I've had here at ARCC. I took this class as an elective to finish my transfer curriculum and had no interest at first, so I expected it to be hard, However, he's very clear with his notes. Whatever he writes on the board is very important. You will 99% find it on the test. Make sure to read the explanation docs and your tests should be easy. All you have to do is arrive on time and pay attention. Come to class. Study. Check explanations on D2L. Despite criticisms I have seen for this course, I feel most are unjustified. This is an excellent course if you dedicate the proper amount of effort and should not be hard to pass if you work for that. I gained a lot of new knowledge from this class and that makes it very worth taking, as I cannot say the same about my other courses. Definitely read up on notes. Take detailed notes because that's all you get in this class.
Attend class regularly. Listen to the stuff talked about that was not written down because most notes on board are not on test. Ask what things say that you cannot read. Make sure you look at your notes before tests. Come to class and take notes! When it comes to tests you will have to study a bit more than most classes. As long as you study you should do good in the class. Try not to be late and don't talk when he's talking.
Study as soon as you learn the
material. Make sure to always print out and frequently look over the topic outlines. If you do this you will have no problem getting an A. Study!
Pay attention. Buy and use the book, even if it optional. It helps a lot. Pay attention in class and take thorough notes. Study material other than just your notes! Great professor and explains things very well. It takes hard work and dedication to do good in his course. Study ahead of time and you will be in great shape. Take an hour to study the morning before. Bumped my test grade 25%. Study! Study at least a week before the test. Pay attention and follow the outlines. Come to class and take good notes because you actually have to know the material to do well on tests.
Use the explanation documents! Print
them out a week or two before the exam and read through them multiple times;
it helps you understand the concepts so much more! Really listen to the instructor, write more than what is on the board. Ask questions if you don't understand.
Take his advice seriously about:
My advice would be to get creative
with your notes. It's a great class. Ask questions if you have them.
Study everything on D2L and your
notes at the same time. Look at the notes and the online PowerPoint while studying. It is easy to get sucked into jumping Wikipedia pages for hours on Astronomy stuff. To find out most of it doesn't matter for the test. Take good notes and show up for lecture ad you'll do fine. Get involved. Keep up on D2L and use the material given and you'll get an A for Astronomy!
Make sure to study the topics on
your own as you go through them in class. It will benefit you. Professor Wehling seems to be a hard, disrespectful professor, but he really is trying to have you grasp the material and learn. He is always willing to help you but you need to ask for it. By showing up, taking notes, and reviewing the material this class is easy. Very interesting course and he makes it more interesting because of his passion behind Astronomy. Organize your notes and study them! Spend a lot more time outside of class studying. Don't just rely on notes and the book. Study as you go, don't wait until the weekend before a test to cram. There is so much to learn that you can't possibly figure out in 3 days. If you study as you go, you won't need to be stressed out in the end.
Take al your notes! Everything
written down and even the stuff he doesn't write down. Take as many notes as you can and flash cards are a great study tool. One thing to make sure is to take good notes. If you don't have good notes you will be lost studying for the test. Also before you take a test a good way to study is go over the explanation documents and the pictures. Study a lot, not just the day before the test. This class takes effort. To actually get the results you want study and review and you will do fine. Try to understand concepts more than just memorizing the fasts (unless he says memorize this). Come to every class and take good notes. Test questions are right from your notes. Always show up to class because every day is important. Print out the Note Sheets on D2L! They will help you understand the material of this course in greater detail. Also, look over your notes and note sheets for at least an hour a day. So if you have any questions you can ask way before the exam.
Study your notes nightly. Don't wait
till just before the test.
Come to class and take good notes. Be sure to study and take good notes.
Stay up to date on materials! Don't
fall behind.
Write a lot of 'side notes' in the
margins.
Take lots of notes and bring a sound
recorder for taping lectures so you can go over things again if you don't
understand the material.
Study frequently.
Pay attention.
Do not miss class. It's so much
easier to understand the material when he explains it to you and you can ask
questions.
Take notes and pay attention.
If you're good at testing, you'll be
fine. No worries. Study or look at materials every day, or almost every day. Listen in class. You will not get all the information from just notes.
Show up to class on time, and show
up every day.
Use the topic outlines to your
advantage. It's everything you'll need to know on the test. Print them out
and use them as study tools to write answers on.
Show up! Missing class = missing
information.
Wake up earlier before class so that
you are ready to absorb knowledge. From Spring 2013 This class is not difficult if you take the time to study and look over the notes. Make the effort--it is a lot more interesting than you might think. Review everything you learn for each day, and use the content explanation available on D2L.
Print out the outlines and make
spaces on Word to fill in each point Ed will talk about. Write down every detail, study hard, actually put forth effort and you will do just fine. The key to this class is taking good notes. It would be very helpful to review previous notes before next class. Tests are strictly on notes.
Go to class and take notes.
Actually
try in this course and you
will do fine. Don't believe the hype of what others say about how "horrible"
this class is. It's interesting IF YOU TRY
to understand and comprehend the topics.
Study 4 days plus weekends for the
tests. It is definitely worth your time to come to each class. It is the only way to take your own notes. Because everyone takes them differently.
Keep and use the book. I regret not
having it to study with. Print out topic outlines and use those for your notes and take the time to read the explanations on D2L and pay attention in class and if you have questions ask! Definitely take all the notes you can and study a lot for tests. Also use everything possible for studying such as D2L. STUDY AND PAY ATTENTION. Study! Don't wait until the last minute. Pay attention and study for the tests. It is not a super difficult class and it shouldn't be made to seem that way. Keep track on when the next test is and make sure to study! Don't study the night before. The information all makes sense, you just have to give yourself time to understand it. Read the notes on D2L. Especially if you're bad at note taking. Make sure you study a lot for tests and take advantage of the explanations and pictures on D2L. They help a lot. I would take good notes and study hard for the test. Stay awake and pay attention! Also take notes. You better study for those tests! This guy is a wizard and used to work for NASA.
Pay attention in class at all times.
Look over the lecture plan first.
Study!
Color code your notes--it helps a
LOT.
Study before every exam, don't just
use notes taken from class, use online D2L sources/notes and make flash
cards. Review your notes several different times before a test. Write the key points in your own words, then compare it with your notes. Come to class!
Pay attention in class!
Come to class, take notes that make
sense to you, even if it's not exactly what was on the board. If you don't use the book, then attend every class (don't rely just on the website) and I'd actually recommend not watching him take notes if he's just writing because then you write down everything he says as opposed to only writing down what he writes. There's more clarification in what he says so it helps a lot. Also try to paraphrase what he's explaining; then either after class or during, ask him about it to make sure you understand. Don't skip too many classes. PAY ATTENTION. Take notes on what is said and written and also draw some of the diagrams. Take notes and spend 5 minutes next class reviewing them. That's all I did to get A's on exams. Probably switch professors--Astronomy was made boring by this one! Unless you have an eidetic memory. This was not for those who don't remember everything. Review the content on D2L before each test along with your notes. Also, do not drop this class if you get one bad test. The grades will come with attending class. Furthermore the second test is the hardest one. If you take the T-Th class, get sleep the night before. Otherwise you'll fall asleep during the lecture. Also, read the D2L explanations before the exams--they help a lot. Always come to class. If you skip a day, you risk missing something important. Do not sleep. Be on time. Go to class. Take notes. Read topic outline. Use the topic outline. They help a lot.
Look at the slideshows at home. Print off the Topic Outlines to study for test!!! They are basically the layout for the entire test. Study for your exams! Even if you're not usually a studier, the content can get you confusing.
Write down everything and bring
coffee so you can stay awake! Study hard for tests. They're harder than you think.
Make sure you know when test days
are so you are well prepared. Come to class everyday. You'll never understand the content from copying someone's notes. Don't be afraid to use the book. If that's not your thing than listen carefully to lecture. Take good notes in lecture because that's what the whole test is based off of.
Go to class otherwise you get lost
on what's going on.
Take good notes and pay attention in
class, and study your notes once a week--don't leave it all until the night
before exam. Show up to class every day and take notes, then review for the tests and it is an easy A. If you're not interested in Astronomy, then don't take this class. I loved it, but I love Astronomy. So I am biased. From Spring 2012 Stay on top of studying and don't fall behind. Go to every class--you will understand the information better. Take all notes that he puts on the board and take notes on things he says. Study hard for tests. Study with a friend before the exams. Try teaching someone else what you have learned. Go to class every day and its super easy. Skip a few and you'll become lost. Don't buy the book. Don't say that the aurora looks like the northern lights because they are the same thing! Pay attention in lecture and take detailed notes.
Show up to class. Take notes well and study on D2L, it helps a lot. You'd be surprised. Go to class. Print off outline and find the answer for each question and you will pass with an A.
Study the outlines! Come to class, take notes, pay attention to the D2L material. Take lots of notes on everything he says, not just what he writes on the board. Pay close attention when he says "remember". Keep a binder that combines both the pictures and hand-written notes. Take good notes and make sure you don't get behind and go to class. Expand your notes. Don't just write what's on the board. Study, study, study. The night before does not work for this class. Take notes on the topic outlines! You can copy and paste them into a word document and space them out. It really helps when it comes time to study! Ask questions. Pay attention and make sure to take lots of notes, not just what he writes on the board. Take notes, show up to class, read explanations online. Take notes as the teacher speaks. Listen carefully.
Arrive for class and don't be afraid
to ask questions. Many people didn't say anything until a few students
started asking questions.
Write down notes that are on the
board. Try to write more than he does on the board.
Don't miss class. Print out the
topic outlines and use them in class. If he doesn't answer one of the
questions on th eoutline, ask it. Take good notes!!! Make sure you only study what was covered in class. Sometimes not all of the topic outline is taught. Take notes on the topic outline itself. Do good on the first 3 tests so you can take a month off. Pay attention or you will not pass.
Take good notes. Study them 30-45
minutes daily. Notes, notes, notes. Also skim the book a little as well to fully understand some of the topics.
I would advise everyone to meet with
the teacher at least once! (preferably in the beginning of the semester). Use highlighters efficiently and don't be afraid to ask questions. Come to class, study, and you will do fine on the tests. Know the material. Look over your notes after every class period. Don't skip.
Take notes, pay attention. Go to class!!! Study. Read stuff on D2L.
Show up to class. Study all of your notes and use D2L to help you understand evyerthing! Take good notes and study. Take notes, and don't miss class. Take good notes and review them. Check D2L explanations but I don't feel that you had to overwhelm yourself studying. Make sure to take detailed notes of not only the things written on the board but the things the instructor is talking about as well. Take advantage of the topic outlines and content explanations. Read the book and the topic outline. Try answering all the questions.
When confused, ask questions even if
you think they are stupid. I recommend you take his study tips to good use. They will help in this class immensely and in future classes, even if they aren't even science. Take good notes, ask questions, and study days before the test! Make sure you read the class description before signing up for this class. I thought it would be about the constellations and more about the planets than what it was.
Study what's on D2L.
Read the Topic Outlines and D2L
information before each class. This class is harder than what it seems like. Write down lots.
Take notes
constantly. From Spring 2011
Come to every class! Read outside of class. Take good notes, and be here every day. You will miss something if you're gone and it most likely will be on the test. Also, write down every diagram, they will help you, and only take a minute to copy.
Show up.
Don't just write what is on the
board, write what he says. Print off all pictures before lecture and take notes with them. Study for the tests and ask yourself questions about it as you study. Know how things are connected. Read book for clarity and take good notes. Write down more than what's on the board. He is a nice guy and wants the class to succeed. Put in the effort and you'll find the hard work pays off. Mainly grades by tests. Lowest test score is dropped. You really have to show up to this class for lectures.
Never miss a class. Look over notes daily. Take good notes and don't miss class.
Pay attention in class. Study your notes for a half hour each day. If you learn a little bit each day it is easier than cramming for the test. Study! Study! Study! Take good notes, pay attention, and don't miss class. Paying attention and writing notes in your own words will help you tons. Go to class. It's hard to learn topics on your own. Study Study notes and look at powerpoints. Don't skip too many classes, if you just show up the tests will be easier.
Go to class!
Study. Pay attention in class! Take lots of notes and study at least 5 days in advance. Take more notes than on the board and make note cards and study them a lot. STUDY. This class is harder than you think. Make sure you study more than one day in advance. The material is hard to understand!
Read the book. Try to understand the material rather than memorizing it.
Make sure you take good notes.
Take in-depth notes that you
understand. Take more notes than just what is written on the board.
Course was a lot more difficult than
expected.
Study early. I failed the first test. I was expecting an A or B. The concepts of orbiting and rotation were deceptively hard.
Read the book. Study! Constantly review material, and do not wait until last minute. Attend class always. Find a study partner.
Definitely take a lot of notes but
not too much where
it's hard to understand.
Read the book. It might actually
help you study hard.
See the instructor and get help
early. Although the text is not required, I think having a bit more in-depth info helped on the test if nothing to reinforce my memory of key lecture points.
Go to lecture and ask questions in
you don't understand.
Attend every class. Study a week or two in advance. Ask questions, do the study outline, study groups. Show up with an open mind, study, and try your best.
Take good notes, follow along with
the online resources. Take good notes and don't miss any classes. When taking notes make sure that you write the slide/picture number in with your notes so that you know which pictures go with each topic.
Pay attention and make it to every
class.
Apply the ideas he gives for note
taking. Print off the topic outlines and have them next to you when you take notes; it really helps to know what direction the discussion will go and it is easier to pay attention.
Attend class every day. Make note cards from the daily notes and memorize them, but make the note cards as soon as you get home, and start looking at them then. Print off all the * pictures. I started doing this after the 1st test and it helped my grade tremendously.
Go see the teacher if you are having
trouble. Also be prepared to know what you are asking him. Memorize, memorize, memorize!!!
Take time to study a little every
night.
Take good notes.
Listen and comprehend the
information! Study, study, study!!! From Spring 2010 Make sure you study way ahead of time. Allow your brain to take in all the information. Study, show up to class, etc. Go see the teacher right away of you don't understand anything he talks about in class.
Start studying several days before the test. Do what works for you to study--be it talking more with the professor or buying the book. And figure it out quickly!
Attend every class. I don't know how it would be possible
to perform well without attendance.
Buy the book and draw pictures on the test! Flash cards help, especially for the first test. Just the basics, come to class and take notes. These are very important because astronomy is a completely new subject for most and you cannot easily apply previous knowledge to it. Take great notes, and study hard. It's much more rigorous than you would think.
Show up to class, you cover a lot each class. Ask questions if you don't understand. Do not skip class. If you do you will be totally lost for that section of the test. Study exactly what has been written down. Take good notes and don't just cram the morning of th etest. Study. The best advice that I can give is to talk with to the prof. If you have any questions at all. This means talking to him during office hours. For me the material made much more sense after a one-on-one session with the professor. Don't think you're bugging him!! He's more than willing to go that extra mile to help you understand the material!!
Study when you get any free chance--even ten minutes a
day. It really helps.
Pay attention in class. Study, study, study! The notes he gives you are the way he wants on test.
Do take notes, but also take an interest in what is being
talked about, it will make learning easier.
Study, study, study! (memorize) Pay attention and take notes. They do help on exams.
Don't miss class. Always go over your notes and use the class website to help prepare for tests. I had a lot of holes in my data so use the textbook if you don't thoroughly understand something. Don't miss a day with testing. Even if you miss one test it will damage your grade greatly.
Make sure you take good notes, and additional notes so
that you can understand what you wrote. Take notes.
Study, study, and study some more. Show up. Take this class if you're looking for a class you actually want to come out of with more knowledge. It's a clas that's definitely hard, but you actually learn. And make sure you're determined, or you won't survive it. And ask questions! Make note cards after every class and read through them as much as possible! Memorize the diagrams, if you deviate a little or phrase a definition wrong he will mark you down. There is no mostly right in this class.
Read the book. Study. When printing from eReserve, select multiple images per page. Copy down word by word of lectures.
Pay attention in class and focus on main idea of what is
being discussed. Don't miss class and take good notes. Study for the tests. Just attend all the classes and take good notes.
Study as soon as possible. Don't cram the night before.
Book is a waste. Study your notes and if you're struggling talk to someone (teacher or tutor) to help you understand better.
Take notes.
I would say really study. Make sure you study everything in your notes because then you will do great on the test. Study and see instructor if you are having trouble. He is very helpful in a one-on-one situation. Study hard, and really pay attention in class.
Be prepared to attend every class and take notes or else
you are screwed.
Buy the textbook and look at the pictures.
Write down everything that is said. These small details
help you understand the topic in your notes when studying. Look over your notes every few days. The tests are very hard so you will need to understand everything to get a decent grade.
Find a study buddy. Get together before each test and
talk about all of the info. Teach each other what the other missed. Teaching
is the best way to learn.
In this course you don't get handout worksheets or lists
of problems. It is more like independent study--test. Study for the tests ahead of time. They are harder than you think. Study a lot!! Try using notecards, they really help!! From Fall 2008 Study, review, and study some more! Take good, clear notes. Review the material before and after class. Print our pictures from eReserve! Add lots of pictures to your notes. Go in for help. Write more notes than he says on the board. Read the book. I lose focus during class and the book and internet help me review. Do NOT skip class. Take detailed notes.
