Hi Prospective Phi Theta Kappans, My
name is Sarah Swenson and I am the Vice President of Scholarship and I focus
on projects that further enhance our education about the Honors Study Topic;
"Gold, God's, Glory: The Global Dynamics of Power". One
example of a project: "International Festival", fall of 2007. We
wanted to learn about certain countries. So, we researched their country's
information about Gold Gods and Glory. More specifically, we wanted to know
what their economy was like, what their religions were and we wanted to
learn about a country's History and what glory would mean to them. We
presented these countries on poster boards in the downstairs lounge for the
campus to view. The choir performed some African pieces, we had a "Where are
you From" poster posted on the Phi Theta Kappa bulletin board, and we had an
international flag display. About your fellow member:
I attend our Monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of every month which is
@2:00pm in L132 and I also attend our weekly meetings on every Wednesday @
2:00pm in the cafeteria. This will be my last semester at Anoka Ramsey, so I
decided to take some fun classes: French 2, Piano, and Environmental Science
Lab. I am planning to attend the University of Minnesota: College of Design
in the fall of 2008. My major is Architecture and my primary focus is to
design "green" sustainable homes that are energy efficient. I volunteer as a
"Big Sister" with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. I intern with
District 48 Senator, Mike Jungbauer. I am also planning my wedding for this
May! In my free time I love to do what every student does, study. I hope
that everyone gives themselves the opportunity to join and get involved with
Phi Theta Kappa because I have had an experience of a lifetime that will
never be forgotten.
The Scholarship Hallmark is the
cornerstone of Phi Theta Kappa. At Alpha Delta Alpha we are
committed to implementing programs and activities that encourage
scholarship among two-year college students by developing an intellectual
climate for the exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for
scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic
excellence.
Honors Study Topic For 2006-2008
Gold, Gods, And
Glory: The Global Dynamics of Power Phi Theta
Kappa members are encouraged to examine the human drive for power and the
multiple dimensions of power. Students should explore the dynamics of power
on various levels: personal, interpersonal, societal, and global. Students
should also seek to understand the sources of power, considering
specifically money and wealth (gold), religion and spiritual strength
(gods), and personal motivators (glory).
