Bracket fungi grow horizontally attached to decomposing
logs and tree trunks. They can be quite woody compared to mushrooms,
which are moist and soft.
Some species of Bracket fungi can be large (up to 20
inches). This type of fungus tends to last longer than other mushrooms.
They range in color from browns and whites to bright orange, red, and
deep mahogany. Brackets sometimes occur singly, but most often they are
clustered, sometimes in bracket "bouquets".
