Joe Schoen is the economics instructor located on the
Cambridge Campus and joined Anoka-Ramsey in the fall of 2009.
Before coming to Anoka-Ramsey, Professor Schoen was an instructor in
Wisconsin at Mid-State Technical College and at the University of
Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County. He received his
Bachelors degree in Economics and in Public Administration from the
University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and his master’s degree in
Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison. In graduate school, he emphasized in
environmental and natural resource economics along with spatial
economics. For fun he enjoys spending time with his family,
running, and being outdoors.

Drew Mattson has been a professor at
Anoka Ramsey for nearly 30 years.
Professor Mattson has received awards and recognition from The Joint
Council on Economic Education and Minnesota Economics Association as
well as being awarded the Master Teacher designation from the
National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development at the
University of Texas in Austin. He has been with Anoka-Ramsey
since 1980 and has holds BA, MA, and MBA degrees. He has had
corporate experience as well as experience as a Senior Economic
Analyst for the State of Minnesota.
Professor Mattson has published many
articles on economic education and also research on alternative
energy potential in Minnesota. His current research interests
are in international development with a special focus on the plight
of children in developing nations. In response to his concerns
about those children, he helped set up a non-profit charity in 1999
which helps fund education, health care, food and housing for
at-risk children in Guatemala.
Professor Mattson has been a leader in
online economics instruction pioneering the trend in the community
college system in Minnesota. Today, the online courses are the
first to fill every semester. He has also been active in the
community appearing on local television newscasts discussing current
issues of special concern to those living in the Northwest Suburbs
of Minneapolis. |

Professor Houser has a Ph.D in
Economics from the University of Florida and an MS in Statistics
from the University of Minnesota. She’s taught at ARCC since the
Fall of 2010 and has more than 15 years experience as a professional
and academic economist. This experience includes 3 years as an
associate professor at Texas A&M International University in Laredo,
Texas, 6 years as an Economist/Senior Economist at the Asian
Development Bank in Manila, Philippines, and 3 years as an Economic
Advisor at the Japan Bank for International Cooperation in Tokyo,
Japan.
Professor Houser’s work in Asia
included sovereign risk assessment for Asian developing countries
being considered for loans, policy analysis of economic issues for
senior management, and economic reporting for internal use and
external publication. She traveled extensively throughout Asia,
Europe, and the Americas to interact with national economic policy
makers.
